The BaltAmor project is a unique photography initiative celebrating the diverse roots and journeys of Baltimore residents. It involves photographing residents at their homes and a location symbolizing their original hometown, with the images presented in a unique triptych format.
-
A triptych is a set of three associated photographs that are intended to be appreciated together. The term "triptych" comes from the Greek words "tri" (meaning three) and "ptyche" (meaning fold). It originally referred to a three-paneled piece of art, often hinged together, with the central panel typically being the largest and the two side panels complementing the main image. The concept has since been expanded to include any three related works intended to be viewed together.
For the BaltAmor project, the triptych will consist of:
A photo of the entry to the participant's home. This image captures the unique architectural details, colors, or character of their home in Baltimore, providing insight into the participant's present life.
A portrait of the participant at their home in Baltimore. This photo captures the individual in their current environment and celebrates their identity as a Baltimore resident.
A photo from a location symbolizing the participant's original hometown. This image might be of a landmark, a landscape, a street scene, or another significant place that represents where they came from.
These three photographs together tell a personal, visual story of the journey of each individual: their origins, their present, and how the two come together in their life in Baltimore. Each triptych stands alone as a personal narrative, but also forms part of the larger collective narrative of the diverse origins and identities of Baltimore residents.
